Lindsey Brown is the Executive Director and co-founder of the James Beard Award-winning Southern Smoke Foundation, a national crisis relief organization dedicated to supporting food and beverage workers. Since co-founding the organization in 2015, Brown has helped grow Southern Smoke into one of the hospitality industry’s leading safety nets, distributing more than $16.5 million in emergency relief and providing more than 11,000 no-cost mental health counseling sessions to workers across the country. In 2026, Southern Smoke received an Impact Award from the James Beard Foundation in recognition of its transformative work.
In 2025, Brown was named to 櫻桃炸彈‘s inaugural Power List, honoring 100 women making the culinary world more interesting, inspiring, and innovative.
Before joining Southern Smoke Foundation full-time as Executive Director in 2023, Brown founded Lindsey Brown Public Relations, representing clients across the food, beverage, and arts industries while securing local, regional, and national media coverage. She also spent a decade as Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau, where she helped establish Houston as a nationally recognized culinary destination. During her tenure, she created the Where the Chefs Eat Houston Culinary Tours, which earned the Public Relations Society of America’s Silver Anvil Award.
Brown began her career at Vollmer Public Relations, working in both the Dallas and Houston offices, before serving as Special Projects Coordinator for the Houston Ballet Academy.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in public relations, Brown is a lifelong advocate for Houston’s cultural and hospitality communities. A classically trained ballerina through age 18, she later co-founded Ballet Barre, Houston Ballet’s young professionals group, and continues to serve on the organization’s Board of Trustees. She is also a member of the advisory board for Dress for Success Houston.
